London Popfest

Hello! Happy new year, all. Hope it’s a great one, this.

The latest news from London Popfest are good and bad. Shall we start with the bad? Bitchtape are no more and therefore not playing. Told you it was sad. But the good news is, the ever so brilliant Flowers have stepped in and are now playing instead of Bitchtape on the Friday. Hooray!

We have a couple more bands to announce but here is the schedule as it stands. Please see the tickets page for details on what types are available. There are only a few 3-day passes left so be quick if you want to be there on all three days, and especially if you want to make sure you are there on Friday as the venue is small and only 3-day pass holders are guaranteed entry.

We’ve also joined up with the lovely How Does It Feel To Be Loved? on the Friday night – the club is down the road from the Grosvenor and all popfest ticket holders will get reduced entry, so the fun can continue on the dancefloor. How ace is that?

We are delighted to add the wonderful Speedmarket Avenue (Sweden) to the list of the bands playing next year’s popfest. Their next album is out now on Elefant Records and they’ve just played a great show with the Aislers Set in Stockholm. Exciting!

We are very happy to announce the dates and some of the bands playing London Popfest 2013.

Next year’s event will take place over three days, Friday 1 March to Sunday 3 March and the venues will be the Grosvenor (Friday), the 100 Club (Saturday) and the Lexington (Sunday).

London Popfest is super excited to announce this year’s film programme, a short directed by Hillfield’s bassist Grant Wilkinson featuring the music of The Clientele, followed by our main feature, an exclusive showing of the Jim Burn’s incredible feature length documentary about the BMX Bandits, with a Q&A with the director himself.

‘C’ is a twist through a dream world. From the city, through a fairground and a forest, to the sea, ‘C’ is an exploration of what it is like to look at the world through a viewfinder for the first time, old memories captured through a new way of seeing. The film was shot on colour and B and W Super 8, and has been scored by The Clientele.

Serious Drugs – A Film About BMX Bandits

There is something special about BMX Bandits. Something special about their music and something special about being a member of the band. This film will help you understand what it means to be a BMX Bandit. When first-time filmmaker Jim Burns was deeply depressed he found hope in the playful, tender, and joyous music of melodic Scottish Indie-pop band BMX Bandits. Shot and produced over a period of four years, Burns’ debut documentary film frames an affectionate portrait of BMX Bandits founder Duglas Stewart and his musical mission to quietly save the world – and himself – one song at a time.
